Employment and transport steering groups launched

27 April 2022

The Transport Steering Group and the Employment Fund Steering Group have been established to provide strategic oversight for the WMI project. The groups will support and guide the development to progress WMI.

The Transport Steering Group has representatives from Four Ashes Limited (FAL), National Highways, Staffordshire County Council, South Staffordshire District Council and City of Wolverhampton Council.

The group will meet bi-annually and will deal with;

  • Approving funds for specific transport alleviation that may be required for unforeseen reasons
  • Approving final arrangements for new bus provisions, including improvements to scheduled services and required shuttle bus routes

The group has already agreed the pre-construction traffic survey locations which are required for monitoring purposes, and has been carried out with the approval from Staffordshire County Council.

The Employment Fund Steering Group has been set up to direct the spend of the Employment Funds, including;

  • Funding of Brokerage co-ordinators (£1.29m) to support local employment opportunities
  • Employment, Skills and Training Plans
  • Employment Fund (£1.7m)
  • Contingency Employment Fund (£1.56m) if local employment targets are not being met
  • On-site training and recruitment facilities
