Spotlight on……….The Kingswood Trust

14 May 2024

Over the next 15 years it is estimated that WMI will generate £1bn of social and local economic value to benefit the local community.

Already we have been working with some amazing people and organisations that we want to celebrate and shout about. Shining a spotlight on all the great work that’s going on.

Kicking off with Rachel Wells, Head Teacher and Charity Manager at The Kingswood Trust in Wolverhampton, who tells us about the importance of outdoor learning.

“Outdoor learning through nature is at the heart of what we do at The Kingswood Trust. What once started as a holiday camp for children in 1923, is now a charity with nine acres of green space that we capitalise on to deliver outdoor learning and nature connecting programmes for people of all ages. This includes forest school and environmental education activities, projects to combat social isolation and support with family engagement, helping those in need. Being outdoors in nature comes with huge benefits, supporting improved health and well-being, as well as nurturing a sense of curiosity and fascination about the natural world.

As a charity, we really appreciate the dedication and support we receive from all our volunteers. This adds much value to what we do and helps us to maintain our excellent reputation in our community, encouraging more people to visit us.

This year we have been developing a new mindfulness garden and tree walk. Working with The West Midlands Interchange has helped us to develop our resources and upskill our team so we can continue to support our community. Their environmental specialists have provided expert advice and information to help us ensure the longevity of our new mindfulness garden and been able to provide information and help to reinvigorate our tree walk which visitors of all ages are already enjoying.”
