West Midlands Interchange (WMI) is celebrating Love Parks Week, a week-long celebration to highlight the vital role green spaces play in boosting both health and wellbeing.
All week, we will share how the two parks will support healthier and stronger communities, as well as taking care of nature and encouraging wildlife diversity.
Three new fitness trails
WMI will feature three new fitness trails, within the parks and the wider site. These will be 1km, 3km and 5km each. With something for everyone, the trails will benefit both beginners to the more experienced runners.
The Penkridge Runners, a local running group, have welcomed the new fitness trails having recently celebrated nearly a thousand runners taking part in both their first ever 10k race and the popular Penkridge fun run.
Martin who runs the local community group is looking forward to using the running routes and recently applied for WMI’s Community Fund, which if approved by South Staffordshire Council, will provide funding for extra training and event sessions using the new facilities created by WMI.
“We are an all-inclusive community running group that offer exercise, new friendships, healthy minds, all benefits from the power of running.” – Martin – Penkridge Runners

WMI’s two new community parks will make a positive contribution to the health and wellbeing of residents and communities, of key importance to the area, with the percentage of adults (16+) taking part in less than 30 minutes physical activity a week, being 10% higher in South Staffordshire than the regional average.
With over 109 acres of outdoor space, the parks will bring a multitude of benefits for both a person’s mental and physical health by encouraging physical activity to reduce stress and provide spaces for social interaction leads to happier and healthier lives.
