West Midlands Interchange are thrilled to hear that the £65,000 Community Fund managed by South Staffordshire Council, had recently granted £1,000 to Penkridge Juniors FC’s girls’ team, a local football club dedicated to nurturing the development of young female athletes.
We spoke with Norman Mence, Chair of the club, to learn more about how this funding will benefit the girls’ team.
A thriving community hub
Based in Staffordshire, Penkridge Juniors FC has been a cornerstone of the local community since its formation in 1985. Its welcoming and supportive environment welcomes children of all ages from local community schools, promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, and healthy living.
Norman told us, “Our girls’ teams are a vital part of our club. We are committed to providing a safe and supportive environment to learn and play football.
“The girls have shown incredible dedication and talent, and we’re always looking for ways to help them reach their full potential.”
How will the funding be used to support the team?
The welcomed grant will be used to purchase new sports kits for the girls’ teams.
“We are absolutely delighted to have been awarded this generous grant. The funding will be used to provide wet weather training gear and tracksuits for our girls’ team on game days. This will ensure that they are comfortable and prepared to play in any weather conditions.
Having access to quality kit is essential for the girls’ development and will help them feel comfortable, confident on the pitch, and proud representing their club.”
The impact of the grant
Grassroots organisations like Penkridge Juniors FC play a crucial role in the local community. The team provides opportunities for young people in the area to develop their skills, build friendships, and stay active.
“By investing in our club, WMI is investing in the future of our community. This grant is a huge boost to our girls’ teams. It will help attract new players, improve team morale, and enhance our club’s overall reputation,” Norman said.
“The funding has already played a role in forming our U10 girls’ team and registering them in the league.”
