First spades in the ground as WMI gears up for Carlsberg Britvic

Work has begun to construct the first unit at WMI, as a groundbreaking ceremony took place on 25 September (2025).

The 222,000 sq ft new unit will be taken up by Carlsberg Britvic, who will be investing £4 million in the site, supporting ambitions for its UK logistics footprint and laying the foundation for future growth.

The new depot, purpose-built to Carlsberg Britvic’s requirements, will feature state-of-the-art facilities and will support the company’s growing logistics needs. Designed with a focus on energy efficiency and building performance, the depot is targeting a BREEAM ‘Excellent’ certification and will be a Net Zero Carbon Aligned building based on the pilot UK Net Zero Carbon Building Standard, while the roofs are optimised for PV panels.

Senior leaders from Carlsberg Britvic, Oxford Properties, and LCP were present at the groundbreaking ceremony on 25 September, joined by South Staffordshire District Council Leader Cllr Kath Perry MBE. The groundbreaking ceremony marks the start of construction which will see Carlsberg Britvic move into the depot in late 2026.

David Bodily, Property & Facilities Director at Carlsberg Britvic, said:

“This groundbreaking ceremony at the West Midlands Interchange is an important milestone in the development of the UK’s foremost logistics hub, with its multi-modal transport connectivity and highly sustainable specifications attracting blue chip occupiers looking for bespoke warehouse space.”
