As part of the development of the West Midlands Interchange, a new bridge is proposed to be constructed over the historic Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal.

To deter anti-social behaviour on the underside of the bridge, we’re planning to install Corten steel fencing on either side of it. Our aim is to enhance the look and feel of this important piece of local infrastructure for canal users.

We have worked with a local designer to create fence design options that are not just functional, but that we hope will reflect the local character.

We have had two designs created:

• Option one is a series of key words and phrases that celebrate Staffordshire’s heritage and culture
• Option two is inspired by the surrounding landscape, including a variety of plants and animals

We hope this approach ensures the fencing contributes positively to the local area by celebrating the local character.
